Do you know what I love best? Rolling around in the snow! So, when the days start getting colder, I just can’t wait for the white stuff to finally lie thick on the ground. And because I’m such a lucky pup, I don’t need to wait for the first flakes to start falling in December. I can just head over to Kitzsteinhorn with my owners, where there’s plenty of snow all year round – even in summer. That’s why at the Kitzsteinhorn ski resort, skiing bliss is guaranteed from the beginning of October to the end of May. But like all other glaciers in the Alps, Kitzsteinhorn is also being affected by climate change. The consequence: The eternal ice is starting to disappear – and much too quickly for our liking. It’s a real tragedy that we need to fight against together with sustainable, careful, quick action. Snow farming, where old snow is kept over the summer, is part of this. In spring, the old snow is put in depots at the edge of the glacier and stored there until the next winter season. This is not only good for the ski resort, but also for the glacier, as it helps to counter melting. If we want to save the glacier, we all need to play our part. Here at our hotel in Zell am See, we’re giving it our all, because this world is the only one we have.
